When Bruno Mars, also known by his real name, Peter Hernandez, was younger, he had a clear musical talent. He learned from the greatest musicians in a unique way; he WAS them. Starting at age 4, Bruno Mars joined his uncle's band as a young Elvis impersonator. Throughout high school, he continued to impersonate famous stars until his uncle finally convinced him to move to L.A. upon graduation.
Like most, Bruno Mars struggled to find work when he first arrived. He eventually met a songwriter named Phillip Lawrence, and the two called themselves The Smeezingtons. Lawrence convinced Mars to try writing for other artists, and together they wrote the song "Long Distance" for Brandy. That put them on the map, and they began writing for other top artists, soon hitting #1 with Flo Rida's "Right Round." Following that, Mars decided to do more than just write.
In 2010, Bruno Mars teamed up with B.o.B. for the song "Nothing on You" -- which they performed for Ellen. It hit #1 and was certified 2x platinum. At the beginning of October, he released his debut album, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans." His first single, "Just the Way You Are," hit #1 and has sold over a million digital downloads. He stopped by to perform it just for Ellen.
